My DeW Story – Nicki Mackey

In My Story by Nicki Mackey

Hello Team DeW!

My name is Nicole Mackey and I am proud to announce that I am the newest member of the DeW team! I will be managing the marketing for DeW. After learning about DeW and their mission, I knew I had to be involved in this community, so I’d like to take a moment to introduce myself and share my DeW story with you.

Born and raised in a small town outside of Cleveland, Ohio, I grew up with an intense passion for both golf and business. This eventually led me to create my own charity called “Birdies Fore ALS” when I was 16 years old, after my grandmother was diagnosed with this terminal disease. Raising over $38,000 in its six year lifespan, this sparked my desire to pursue missions that make a difference.

Nicki Mackey - golfAttending Eastern Kentucky University, I played Division 1 college golf and graduated with degrees in both Marketing and Professional Golf Management. After graduation, I went on to become a PGA Assistant Golf Professional at Spyglass Hill Golf Course at Pebble Beach Resorts. Starting my career at one of the most renowned golf courses in the world, I was also the only woman professional and the only one with Class A PGA Certification. Growing up around golf, I was no stranger to a male dominated industry; however, this first career job is where I began to deeply experience gender inequality in my professional life. I regret to say that this eventually eroded my love of the game and I began to resent the industry that had dominated my life up to that point.

I eventually moved on from my job at Pebble Beach in pursuit of my mental health, and I started my career in marketing. This led me to many exciting opportunities and I quickly discovered my love for marketing, websites, and content creation.

Fast forward to 2018, when I joined as the Marketing Director for the American Academy for Oral Systemic Health (AAOSH). I was initially drawn to AAOSH due to my passion for overall health and for their mission of saving lives through collaboration. Throughout my journey at AAOSH, I met many incredible game changers in the field of dentistry, many of them women. I recently left AAOSH to pursue my own Marketing and Design business called Redwood Designs. It has been a lifelong dream to pursue my own business and create a marketing company that was different.

When I was introduced to Anne Duffy by my good friend and fellow DeW, Machell Hudson, I was in awe at DeW’s mission and the opportunity to work with this game changing organization. The DeW mission to inspire, highlight, connect, and empower all women in dentistry was one that I deeply resonated with. I am honored to be part of the DeW team and I look forward to meeting you all and growing the DeW community!
