Stepping out of the elevator at 5 a.m., I ordered a ride to take us to DAL airport. My app indicated a 12-minute wait, and I shared the driver’s details with my husband, Jeff, who had been working as a conference photographer. As we exited the hotel, I noticed a change: our driver was now Sam, whose presence would soon prove to be crucial.
Settled in the backseat, we engaged in easy conversation with Sam, discovering our shared journey as black belts in Tae Kwon Do. The ride was smooth, our spirits lifted as we navigated the Dallas Toll Road. Traffic was substantial, even at this early hour, until everything shifted.

Fifteen minutes in, with an 18-wheeler on our right and speeding cars to our left, the trucker abruptly locked his brakes. The massive vehicle veered into our lane, tires screeching. Sam’s quick reflexes took charge, maneuvering us into the fast lane, skillfully avoiding disaster.
Passing the truck, I caught a disturbing sight: a woman, dressed in black, stood motionless in the lane, hands in her pockets, staring down oncoming traffic. I exclaimed, “She wants to be hit!” and dialed 911. We sped past her seemingly abandoned car, parked with lights on. The 911 operator confirmed first responders were on their way.
Reflecting on that morning, immense gratitude fills me for Sam’s alertness and decisive action. More so, I acknowledge the Universe’s subtle orchestration in changing our driver. This wasn’t just coincidence; it was a nudge from the Universe, aligning events for our safety.
This experience reinforces my belief that the Universe is constantly rearranging itself for our benefit. In life’s unpredictability, this belief is transformative. My cell phone background image displays a beautiful Oahu coastline (my happy place) with mantras that remind me:
- Universal energy flows to and through me with ease, grace, and joy.
- I expect exceptional results no matter the circumstances.
- The Universe is forever aligning in my best interest.
I’m uncertain about the woman’s outcome and I want to believe that she found help. I send her love and peace, feeling these emotions reverberate within me alongside my gratitude that no one was hurt.
Mindfulness and gratitude are essential in navigating intense experiences. They ground us, allowing us to face adversity with calm and clarity. By being present, we uncover life’s lessons, finding growth in unexpected places.
Reflect on moments when the Universe/Source/God may have guided you, even if not immediately obvious. Trusting that each turn in the road is part of a greater design can offer comfort and inspiration, helping us navigate life with strength, grace, and ease.
Namaste.
