The Answer is in the Ladies’ Room

Picture it: Northeast Ohio gets snow overnight Wednesday to Thursday after the most recent snow melts away. Thursday, I had 7 surgery cases, and I run a lean and mean operation with a skeleton crew. Roads are icy, and lake-effect snow is no joke! The radio was talking about icy roads and to be careful, etc.

My dental assistant messages me that traffic is at a standstill and there is nothing but ice on the freeway! She said she tried calling my insurance specialist (who is a dental assistant as well, but on surgery days, she works from home to follow up on claims, send prior auths, etc.) but she wasn’t answering. I told her safety first and to go back home. We were having an anesthesiologist coming from Kentucky to our office and my first case was a kiddo who needed a lot of dentistry under GA and we rushed his case because Mom is due with baby #2 in early January!!!

I sat in my office, held my DeW necklace (I haven’t taken it off since the day we got it), prayed, and repeated to myself, “I can DeW hard things!” Just as I was about to go in for the first case, my insurance specialist called me back asking what was going on with the missed calls and text messages. I quickly explained the situation and she said, “I’ll be in!!!” I thanked her and told her to be careful with the roads.

I took his X-rays under GA, processed them, and completed 7 anterior composite restorations (white fillings on front teeth), 4 extractions (wiggle wiggles), and 4 stainless steel crowns (silver caps)…BY MYSELF…in 58 minutes!! Just after I took the throat pack out and the medical team took over to wake my Panther Cub up, my assistant/insurance specialist walked in!! I was so relieved, thankful, and grateful!!! We can DeW hard things and AMEN to having team members who are cross-trained!! Be safe, give grace and space on the roadways, and have a blessed holiday season DeW Family!!! The answer truly is in the ladies’ room!
