Culture Under Pressure

How Dental Leaders Can Support Their Teams Without Losing Themselves

Leadership in dentistry today requires far more than managing schedules, production goals, and patient care. The reality is that the outside world walks into the practice with your team every day. Political tension. Family crises. Financial stress. Social media noise. Loss. Fear. Uncertainty.

Our teams carry these realities with them, and they don’t magically disappear when the workday begins. Yet most leaders were never trained to navigate these moments.

Too often, the default response becomes silence. Leaders worry about saying the wrong thing, crossing a line, or opening a conversation they don’t know how to manage. But silence can create just as much tension as saying the wrong thing.

As someone who works closely with dental leaders and teams, I see this challenge constantly. The emotional weight people bring into the workplace is real, and leaders are expected to keep everything running smoothly while also supporting their people.

That’s exactly why I’m partnering with Edna Abreu and psychological safety expert Jonathan Bonanno to host a free, three-part live training series called Culture Under Pressure. This series is designed to give dental leaders practical tools to stabilize their teams, navigate difficult conversations, and lead with clarity when emotions run high.

This is not about becoming a therapist for your team. It’s about becoming a regulated, strategic leader when things get hard.

Why This Conversation Matters Now

Dental practices are micro-communities. When the world outside becomes stressful, divided, or uncertain, those pressures inevitably show up in the workplace.
Leaders today are navigating:
– Staff experiencing personal crises or grief
– Political and social tensions among team members
– Workplace conflict fueled by stress and burnout
– Emotional spillover that impacts communication and productivity
– The constant pressure to maintain performance while supporting people

Many leaders feel stuck between protecting their culture and protecting their team’s wellbeing.

This training is designed to help leaders do both.

A 3-Part Live Training for Dental Leaders

This webinar series is designed specifically for practice owners, managers, and dental leaders who want practical leadership tools they can implement immediately.

The goal is simple: help leaders create stability without burning themselves out.

Session 1
When the World Walks Into Your Practice
March 11 | 6:00–7:00 PM EST

When external stress enters the workplace, leaders often feel unsure how to respond.

In this session, you’ll learn how to:
– Understand why silence from leadership often backfires
– Use a simple Stabilize → Sensemake → Support framework
– Deliver a clear, 60-second message that helps staff and patients feel safe and supported

Session 2
Say the Thing Without Saying the Wrong Thing
March 24 | 6:00–7:00 PM EST

Difficult conversations are unavoidable in leadership—but most people were never taught how to handle them.

This session focuses on communication skills for high-tension moments.

You’ll learn how to:
– Start difficult conversations without stereotyping, rescuing, or freezing
– Navigate teams with different beliefs or fears without the office becoming divided
– Use boundaries + empathy language that maintains professionalism and psychological safety

Session 3
Operationalize It: Building It Into Your Practice

April 7 | 7:00–8:00 PM EST

Leadership culture can’t rely on improvisation—it needs structure.

In this final session, you’ll learn how to turn leadership principles into everyday practice systems.

You’ll learn how to:
– Implement a lightweight Safety Operating System that actually works in dental practices
– Know what belongs in written policy versus what should be communicated verbally
– Create consistent leadership behaviors across managers and practice leaders

Building Stronger Leadership in Dentistry

The dental profession is built on relationships, with patients, with teams, and with communities. But strong relationships require strong leadership.

When leaders have the tools to navigate difficult conversations, regulate their responses, and stabilize their teams during stressful moments, the entire practice benefits.

Our goal with Culture Under Pressure is to help dental leaders create workplaces where teams feel supported, communication is clear, and performance remains strong—even when the world outside feels uncertain.
